Bun In The Oven Means Another Nursery Makeover

August 8, 2020

Mason’s Nursery Makeover

The people who owned our house before us had two little girls, so both of the extra bedrooms were super girly when we moved in. Having two boys meant that there was, not just one nursery makeover, but two that would need to be done.

The first room we painted after moving was Grayson’s since he was the only child at the time and purple was not really his style.

But I thought I would start with Mason’s room makeover first since it is the one we most recently completed.

Mason’s room was our guest bedroom until we turned it into his nursery. Grayson also did a stint in the room when we were fixing and painting his room as well.

We definitely knew that regardless if we had a boy or a girl we would be changing this room.

Making Necessary Changes For The Nursery Makeover

Since leaving it girly just would not do!

So since Mason was obviously a boy the whole room was redone. The things we really wanted to change were the wall color, fan, and pink window covering.

The brown was really dark and the pink was Pepto Bismol-esk. The chair rail dividing the colors was also something we wanted to remove.

Goodbye Chair Rail

So we started by taking off the chair. This actually came off quite easily. Then Kevin went to work patching holes and fixing drywall.

Which included a large hole that the HVC company cut to survey whether we could put in a return air vent in the room!

The Paint Was When The Real Nursery MakeoverTransformation Began

Bye, Bye, Pepto and Brown

After prepping the walls we painted all of them a beige color. I wanted a striped accent wall somewhat like Grayson’s but with its own twist. So we decided on having both horizontal and vertical stripes.

Stripes In Progress

My love for stripes continues!

Kevin started by measuring out the four white horizontal stripes. He taped them off and painted them. After they dried and we took the tape off we then measured out the four vertical dark blue stripes.

I initially was thinking of a more buffalo plaid look but what we ended up with looked really nice! When you are 8 months pregnant with a large breach baby and just want to have to room completed you will settle for almost anything that looks “close” to what you have envisioned.

Next On The Nursery Makeover List – A New Ceiling Fan

While we were painting and waiting for things to dry Kevin also installed a new ceiling fan in the room. After a few trips into the attic and some choice words, we had a nice new huge fan for sweet little Mason.

The room has two big windows and gets sun in the afternoon making it one of the hottest rooms in the house. The fan definitely helps offset this downfall.

A New Nursery Means New Curtains Too

Blocking out the sun as much as possible is 100% a necessity in a nursery!

I ended up finding curtains that I liked and somewhat matched the blue stripes on his wall at Kohls. They were $11 for both panels which I was quite impressed with myself for finding!

I ended up getting a set for our bedroom as well because really who can pass up nice curtains for $11. Obviously not this girl!

Guest Bedroom For Awhile

It was ready, but we technically didn’t need to use it yet.

We ended up keeping the room as our guest bedroom for a little while. Specifically so that when my Dad and Step-Mom came to stay with Grayson while we were at the hospital they would have room to stay in.

Which worked out well since we really didn’t need the room at the time given the fact that Mason was going to be sleeping in our room for a while at first.

Though when Mason was about 4 months old we decided to move him into his own room to sleep. Before moving him we finished putting all the finishing touches in his room.

Adding The Finishing Touches To Mason’s Nursery

We moved his rocker from our room into his. As well as his crib. Most all of the wall decorations had already been hung except the M and sign over his changing table.

All Came From Hobby Lobby

Prayer Sign – We hung this over his changing table.

Galvanized Letter “M” – Which I painted with the same paint I used for both the boy’s dressers.

Wood Giraffe Cutout – This came from Grayson’s nursery in the old house that we didn’t end up using in his new room.

Growth Chart – Really the only one we could find that we liked at Hobby Lobby when we were looking.

“Welcome To My Crib” Sign – Also from Grayson’s first room.

The Completed Nursery Makeover

I think the room turned out well and, other than my furniture rearranging impulses, it is complete! I’m sure toys will crowd the walls at some point but for now, it is a sweet nursery we enjoy!
