Apple Picking Fun
An apple a day keeps the doctor away. At least that’s what they say!
Recently we took the boys to go apple picking. They both love anything that involves being outside. So we knew that apple picking would be a hit for both of them.
After Mason woke up from his morning nap we headed to A&M Farms in Midland, OH. Which is about a 30-minute drive from our house.
Passing Down Traditions
Sharing my favorite childhood activities with my boys.
Growing up we used to go apple picking, blueberry picking, peach picking, strawberry picking, to the pumpkin patch, and to cut down a Christmas tree. It’s fun to pass down these experiences that I truly enjoyed and treasure to my boys.
A&M Farms has become our go-to place for apple picking and pumpkins as well. We have been here multiple times.
We initially went apple picking here when we were dating. As well as taking Grayson to get pumpkins last year. I will say it holds a special place in our memory bank!
Arriving At The Farm
Something about being at a farm that makes you feel free. Minus the bugs and nasty things, of course!
When we arrived Grayson was super excited to see we were somewhere he could run freely. With all of the shutdowns and time at home, it is nice to find activities where we can be out in nature together.
Kevin went into the “Apple House”, as they call it, to buy our bag for apple picking. We would have all gone into the cute little store but with coronavirus they only allow one family member to enter at a time.
It probably actually saved us money in the end because Kevin went in with one purpose and left. I would have browsed of course and found things we “needed” to try!
The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree
Which is what I tell Kevin all the time when our boys “act” like him!
Apple picking bag in hand we loaded the boys into our double stroller and headed for the trees. Grayson could not wait to be let free to peruse through the isles of trees.
We had to go over the fact that we don’t pick up the apples from the ground. Especially the already eaten cores!
They had multiple rows of Jonathan Apples and Grimes Apples ready for picking. They were on the smaller size which was perfect for little hands to grab and hold.
A lot of the apples were up higher in the trees so Kevin and I took turns with each of the boys hoisting them up so they could pick their apples.
Who Knew Apples Could Bring Such Joy
Sometimes the simplest things in life are the best things.
Every time Grayson picked an apple he would laugh and smile with excitement and joy! He kept saying “bore, bore” which right now means “more, more”!
Mason seemed enamored by the apples. He clenched onto his tiny apple as though it was his only possession. He definitely tried to take a bite or two out of each apple he picked.
Both of the boys had a great time as we walked amongst the trees looking for apples. Grayson was extremely excited about the green apples, which were the Grimes apples.
This made me realize that I never buy green apples. He continuously said, “green apple, green apple, geen, apple”!
Once our bag was overflowing with all of our picked apples we headed to the car. I was actually quite glad that Kevin had bought the small bag.
Had we had a larger one we would have been out there forever picking apples! On our way to the car, we found ourselves in a detour of sorts.
A Pumpkin Patch Too
Because no real fall farm trip is complete without pumpkins too.
Because no real farm trip in September, aka the beginning of fall, is complete without seeing lots of pumpkins we ventured into the pumpkin tent to take a gander.
Grayson had a ball running around looking and touching all the pumpkins. There were multiple piles of different size pumpkins throughout the tent.
Mason enjoyed sitting on the stacks of haystacks with Daddy looking around at the pumpkins from this throne of hay!
Plans To Return For Pumpkin Picking
The only time I agree with Kevin’s one day at a time, one holiday at a time, one activity at a time, kind of mentality!
So when we told Grayson it was time to go he definitely didn’t understand why we weren’t buying a pumpkin that day.
After our somewhat successful attempt at explaining that we would come back closer to Halloween to get pumpkins to carve we headed to the car to go home.
Family Traditions
Building traditions as a family of four!
Looking back at our apple picking adventure I know I will forever remember this day. A day we spent together amongst the apple trees just enjoying a simple activity in the wonderful world the Lord has given us to live in.
Treasuring these memories and looking forward to the memories to come and the traditions that we will continue to make.
Apple picking is definitely something that will continue to be a family tradition for us. We look forward to going back to A&M farms to pick out pumpkins as we get closer to Halloween!
A&M Farms
A definite place to begin a family tradition.
If anyone lives in the Cincinnati area I would definitely recommend A&M Farms for an apple picking adventure with your family, or a new tradition to start.
Their prices are super reasonable. They also have a nice shaded area with picnic tables that you bring lunch and enjoy the beautiful scenery!
