To say that I can not wait to be done with bottles is an understatement.
I’m sure my husband won’t be shocked that somehow it’s his fault that we started out with the most time-consuming bottles.
Though in actuality we would have gotten there eventually, which is beside the point!
Bottles It Will Be
All Plans have A’s and B’s!
But my bottle disdain started the day we brought Grayson home from the hospital. We tried breastfeeding at the hospital to no avail, but not without trying. We tried and tried and tried.
Eventually one of the Lactation Consultants said that she didn’t think it was ever going to work for us. I felt peace in her honesty. Even though other Lactation Consultants were pushing us to still try.
When we got home from the hospital I sent my poor husband off with a list of things we were going to need. Because we didn’t plan on bottle feeding I obviously wasn’t completely prepared.
I really didn’t have a preference for a bottle at that time. I hadn’t done that much research on them.
Which in some regard is my fault but I sent him off with one instruction when picking out bottles. Anything that doesn’t have 500 parts!

Hello, Dr. Brown Bottles
All FIVE Pieces Of You.
Well, low and behold what bottle does he come home with, Dr. Brown, of course. Don’t get me wrong Dr. Brown bottles work wonderfully.
As long as you don’t overfill them. The warning on the bottle that says “don’t fill beyond this line” is sound advice! And as long as you follow this instruction you will have smooth feeding. But they are a pain in the butt to clean.
Sorry, when you just want to make a quick bottle and you realize through your puffy sleep-deprived eyes that you have no clean bottles. Just the mere thought of having to clean a bottle with 5 parts is quite daunting.
Dr. Brown bottles it was for Grayson. It ended up working out in the end because he was extremely colicky. Our pediatrician at the time suggested we use them anyway.

Might As Well Continue The Trend
Since, if what you know works then stand by the notion, “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it”!
So when Mason was born we stuck with what we knew. We bit the bullet and yet again bought trusty old Dr. Brown bottles!
I thought that washing Dr. Brown bottles when I had one baby was time-consuming. Add a toddler into the mix and you have no desire to wash bottles or much of anything for that matter.
This all sounds very dramatic as I am writing it but it was sadly my truth at the time. Sadly again, it still is. I was desperate to rid my self of the marathon bottle washing and find a bottle with fewer parts that still worked for Mason.
Philips Avent Baby Bottles
Starting with the one that has the least amount of parts I could find!
In came the Philips Avent bottles, only three parts, right up my alley! Well, they were not up any of Mason’s alley’s, of course. He would spit up and have horrible gas when we used them.

Next The Baby MAM Bottles
Because there must be a bottle out there that has fewer pieces for Mason!
So though I was somewhat defeated I wasn’t ready to give up on my search for the right bottle. I then decided to try the MAM Bottles. Mason was okay with the MAM pacifiers so I thought maybe they would do the trick.
Though to be fair, they still had four pieces to them but they were much easier to clean than the Dr. Brown bottles. I’m sure you can guess what happened to those bottles. A big fat, NO!

Struck Out
Because sometimes three strikes and you really should be out! Even though I technically only tried two other bottles. There were three altogether.
I didn’t have any issues with the Avent or MAM bottles in regards to leaking or functionality. I would have used either one of them gladly if they would have worked for Mason. But that wasn’t the case.
Acceptance Is Not Always Peace
More Like Lots Of Pieces!
Dr. Brown bottles for both of my boys it is! When I start to get a collection of dirty bottles on my counter now I just cringe. Hush my thoughts of finding a new magic bottle with fewer pieces and wash on!
Dr. Brown bottles are wonderful and do what they claim. Mason has less gas and colic when using them. So for that, I am truly grateful. As the adage goes “beggars can’t be choosers”.
