Cold brew coffee has become a staple in our house. We like to refer to it as Mommy and Daddy’s turbo juice!
We both have always been coffee drinkers. But when I figured out a way to make cold brew coffee at home our Keurig got an infinite vacation.
It seems like it only gets used now when my Dad or father-in-law comes to visit. I’m sure there are many ways to make cold brew coffee this is just how I do it.
My Step-by-Step Guide
Easy to follow steps for making cold brew coffee at home.
I start with a normal bag of coffee and a gallon pitcher.
We normally buy Eight O’Clock coffee but have used others.
Really whatever is on sale when we go shopping.
What You Will Need:
1 Gallon Pitcher – I used a rubber made gallon pitcher.
1 Bag of Coffee – Whatever brand, flavor, or roast color you prefer.
Wooden Spoon – Or any large spoon you have.
Coffee Filter – Or any filter system that you have.
Storage Container – To store the coffee once it is done.
Cup To Hold Filter – Something that will fit the filter you have/use.
Step One:
I pour the whole bad of coffee into the gallon pitcher.
Step Two:
Then I add cold water to the gallon pitcher while continuously stirring to ensure all of the grounds get mixed in with the water.
I continue filling until it reaches the top though sometimes I’m not paying attention and it definitely gets a little more full than necessary!
Step Three:
Once I have filled the pitcher I put the lid on it and place it in the fridge over night.
Sometime I will also make it in the morning and let it sit all day.
I like to leave it in the fridge for 8-12 hr, sometimes more.
Step Four:
When I am ready to strain the coffee I grab the pitcher of coffee, my 3-quart storage container and a cup that will fit the coffee strainer.
I actually use the strainer that came with our old Cuisinart Coffee Maker that we no longer have.
This exact strainer is sold at the grocery store and online. I have checked it out in case I ever have to replace it.
I will use a clear cup or my Bubba cup to strain.
Step Five:
Once I have everything I need out I pour the coffee into the strainer.
This takes a couple fills to complete.
Once I have finished getting all the liquid out of the coffee pitcher and poured it into the 3-quart storage container and place it back in the fridge for storage.
It normally makes about 3-quarts, give or take, of coffee.
Last And Best Step:
Enjoy A Cup!
I am a creamer girl! I like my coffee with any Coffee Mate sugar-free creamer.
This Coffee Can Be Enjoyed Hot As Well
Despite the “Cold” Brew Name!
I normally always have this coffee cold but I have on occasion heated it up in the microwave as well and it is still just as good.
Though it is definitely stronger than a normal Keurig pod brewed cup of coffee.
If you are going to have it hot you can always add water to it to make it a little less potent and closer to a normal strength brew of coffee.
