When we started transforming our home office into Grayson’s nursery it felt like a dream. We had been trying for a baby for about two years and our dream was finally coming true. I didn’t want to start the nursery too soon or too late. I wanted to make sure it was real before I got too ahead of myself. Since that is so easy to do when you start conjuring up a baby nursery in your mind!

Bye, Bye, Office. Hello, Baby Nursery!
Move over working at home, the baby is moving in!
So the room was redone from top to bottom into a baby nursery. Only the best for the baby! We painted the walls, replaced the floors, updated the doors, and obviously bought all the necessities that go into a nursery.
We had just finished replacing all of the hallow doors with six-panel doors throughout the entire house. As well as, updating all of the trim. More on all of that later.

Disassembly In Progress
We started by taking all of our office furniture and stuff that was in the office and moved it into the basement.
Luckily, my father-in-law was in town at the time and was able to help us dismantle our office. It’s nice to have a couple of extra hands when moving large furniture and lots of books!
Painting The Nursery Walls
Because Gold Buff Would Not Do!
For the walls, we initially decided on a very light blue but when we started painting we realized it looked more white than blue. So back to Lowe’s, we went to get another color.
We chose the other color we liked in the beginning, a light blue color that was definitely blue. After testing the new paint out we were ready to get the whole room painted.
Baby Nursery Accent Wall Time
I have a thing for striped walls, and this is where it all began!
We decided on a stripe accent wall with white stripes, which is why the first color really didn’t work for our all-over vision. After the blue paint was dry we taped off the stripes.
We decided on seven white stripes. I put two coats of white paint on the stripes and it was done.
I couldn’t wait to take the tape off and see the finished project. There were definitely a couple of touch-ups we had to do but it turned out well.
New Flooring For The Baby Nursery Too
Because something about the old nasty floor just doesn’t bode well when thinking about your baby crawling on it!
Once we were done painting it was onto the floor. The initial flooring that was in the room was an oak laminate flooring. We leveled the floor out previously because there was a joist issue that caused the floor to be uneven and creek.
When we leveled out the floor we had to take all of the laminate flooring out. While doing this we discovered it had been placed on top of old vinyl tiles.
Of course, the vinyl tiles had been there probably since the house was built and they smelled as so. Because of this, we decided to scrape off all of the vinyl tiles.
Since this was a project that kept throwing us more and more layers of fun suprises. We discovered while trying to scrape the vinyl off that they had been applied with a black tar adhesive.
This of course made it quite difficult to remove. Regardless the project was completed and at the time we just put the oak laminate back that was in there.
When deciding on the new flooring we wanted something with a rustic feel. We found a barn wood laminate flooring at Sam’s Club that was on sale and we really liked it. It had the tone we were looking for and a nice rustic feel.
It went really well with all the colors in the nursery. We ended up buying all of the boxes that they had in stock at the store and then ordered a couple more online to finish the room off.
Finishing Touches For The Baby Nursery
Save the best part of the project for last!
After a few “special cuts”, as Kevin likes to call them, we had the flooring installed. This didn’t take too long because the room was quite small. We installed the trim next and put all the outlet covers on.
Finally, it was time to decorate, my favorite part! We already had the dresser, which we had redone, ready to bring in. The crib was still in the box and needed to be assembled. The rocker was on order from Target and just needed to be delivered.

We also bought cube storage from Target. Adding bins to the cube storage rounded out our closet completion for the room. We needed something to add a little more storage to the nursery because it was somewhat lacking in the area.
For the wall decor, it all came from Hobby Lobby!
Large galvanized letter “G” – which I painted the same color as the dresser.
A bible verse picture – which went over his changing table/dresser.

The last things that we added to the baby nursery, decorative-wise, were a white shag carpet and a small brushed nickel lamp with a white shade from Target. I guess you can tell that I like Target and Hobby Lobby a lot! At this point, we were all ready for him to come and couldn’t wait to meet our precious baby boy!
