A project we have most recently completed was painting our living room, loft, and upstairs hallway areas with Valspar Wisteria Snow paint color. The current living room paint desperately needed a makeover. The rooms initially had multiple different colors throughout along with different colors painted on areas that were “patched”. There was gold, light beige, and green. Kevin swears that there was red of some sort because he kept finding it when patching up with walls.
Thanks to the coronavirus Kevin had lots more time at home. When he is stuck at home it means he is working on a project. He always likes to “keep busy” with some type of project. All of these factors made it the perfect time to paint the good majority of our house!

The Room Breakdown
The living room has a two-story ceiling that opens into the loft upstairs. The loft area is partitioned off with a wood banister railing. If it was up to me the banister would have gotten a nice coat of white paint on it too! All things in good time though. 🙂 The upstairs landing is quite open throughout to all the bedroom doors and the guest bathroom.
This was definitely the biggest painting project we had on our house project to-do list. We initially put it off because we were thinking of hiring someone to paint it for us. There are a lot of areas that are hard to get to and most of the walls are quite high. Especially the walls that are close to the stairs.
With Kevin being afraid of heights, which I am too, I didn’t blame him for wanting to hire someone to do it. But being stuck at home we decided to bite the bullet and get done what we could.

Time To Make It Happen And Change The Living Room Paint Color To Wisteria Snow
Paint Time, which is never actually painting time but more or less the start of paint “prep” time!
So the process began as it always does with lots of drywall patchwork, fixing corner beads, nail pops, and all of the fun things that come along with wall perfection! This is normally the most time-consuming part of any paint project.
Though Grayson enjoys watching Daddy work and “helping” when he can. I definitely don’t feel the same fascination more or less I have the antsy let’s just paint already feeling!

Necessary Addition During The Painting Process
While Kevin was patching the walls to paint he also added an outlet behind the TV. This was so that we could plug the TV in without having to use an extension cord. I will say that I was not sad to see the white extension cord go. Having it running the side of the fireplace was somewhat of an eyesore!
Adding the outlet was extremely nice since there is nothing worse than being in the midst of watching something “important” and seeing a blank screen because a curious two-year-old decided to unplug the extension cord. So if the looks of the extension cord were not enough motivation, toddlers definitely were!
It’s actually time to paint the living room Wisteria Snow!
We decided that we really liked the paint color that we chose for the entryway, Wisteria Snow, and would use that color throughout the living room, loft, and hallway area as well.
We were trying to avoid repeating that past trend in the house of lots of different colors in every area. Technically they aren’t “rooms” per se because they are open to each other. We wanted to a have more cohesive flow throughout.
Kevin was off to Lowe’s yet again. I’m pretty sure that they know him by name now! Especially the times he “forgets” something or has to make multiple trips a day to Lowe’s. I told him I was going to start keeping track of how many trips he actually takes!
He arrived back home with a 5-gallon paint container of Valspar Wisteria Snow Ultra in eggshell. He got to work painting while I tried to appease both the boys. This is no small task in itself. Grayson always wants to “help” Daddy and mimic his every move at the same time. And of course, there’s the fact that ladders, paint cans, and two-year-olds are not a great combination!
Mason was still small enough that he was not in motion. He could be contained a little easier. He was appeased in his jumperoo and pack-n-play! But still meeting the needs of them both in the midst of painting chaos is no easy chore.

In the name of Wisteria Snow, it was time to face the fears of height!
Painting progressed and when it was time to get the higher area Kevin decided to go with my Dad’s tried and trusted method of duck-tapping a paintbrush to the end of a pole. The hilarity of this is beyond words. I can still remember when my Dad told us that he had painted the area in his house over his stairs that is quite high by taping a paintbrush to the end of a pole. Well let me tell you, mister measure twice and cut once, would NEVER do this. This was just not in that wheelhouse of his.
So when he came into the living room with a paintbrush attached to a long pole with duct tape I could not wait to snap a picture and send it to my Dad! This was one of those times when a picture was worth more than a thousand words. I will say my Dad’s method worked out quite well. However, there were definitely spots that Kevin just recently went back and fixed that were on the ceiling area.
Last touches to our newly painted wisteria snow walls.
Which always seems to be the least planned on.
Once everything was painted we put everything back. The new wisteria snow color brightened up the whole house and really gave it a clean new feeling. However, Grayson did decide to add his own little touch to the newly painted walls. He must have felt that something was missing, like his drawing! He’s definitely lucky it was just a pencil. Though I found it somewhat funny I can say Kevin didn’t share in the humor.
Wisteria Snow Living Room Paint Project Complete
It was nice to be able to mark this project off of our to-do list. I added it to my list of positives that came out of the coronavirus situation. Having more time at home gave us the opportunity to accomplish this paint project.
There is definitely a list of things that we still want to do to the living room and will slowly but surely be working on them. Stay tuned for those!
