When I was pregnant with Grayson my “nesting” feeling manifested itself through crafting. And what better craft to do than nursery accent crafts, of course?
I will say I love crafts and wish I was better at them. I am definitely one of those people who will see a cute craft, buy everything to make it, start the craft, and then quickly realize I just do not have the patience for it.
This is probably because most of the crafts I start never turn out anything like what I see on Pinterest or the pictures that inspired me in the first place.
So with my pregnancy bravado and nesting exhilaration, I decided I wanted to add something to Grayson’s nursery that I created and made especially for him.
Starting Small
You have to start somewhere, right?
I started with my small “craft” project of painting the galvanized letter “G” we bought for his room with the same paint we used to refinish his dresser in. Which wasn’t really a craft in a sense it was more of just a painting project.
I guess painting the “G” may have inspired my newfound need to craft!
After some thought as to what craft I wanted to tackle next along with some Pinterest inspiration, I decided that I would make him a stool. So off I went in search of the perfect little stool I was going to decorate.

My Supply List
My Favorite Part Of Most All Crafts!
Stool
The small wooden stool I found at Michael’s. I wanted something little but still sturdy.
Stencil
My stencils I found at Hobby Lobby. I bought both letters and designs.
Paint
Picking out paint colors was probably the easy part. I picked out light blue, tans, and other acrylic paints at Hobby Lobby when I picked out my stencils.
Paint Supplies
Starting a new craft meant I had to buy some paintbrushes and painting supplies which I also got from both Michaels and Hobby Lobby.
Once I bought all of the supplies I set everything up on the kitchen table. I started off by painting the stool blue. Which was actually the same color that we painted his dresser.
After adding two coats of paint it was time to “decide” on how I wanted to decorate it. This was definitely something I had a hard time deciding on.

I eventually settled on a smaller capital letter stencil set to spell out Grayson’s first name.
Then I added some of the clouds, stars, moon, and rocket stencils that I had picked out as well.
When it came to the stenciling colors, I used white for the clouds, moon, and letters for the name, and light blue paint for all the stars. For the rocket, I decided to use a silver color that I had on hand.
Grayson’s stool turned out better than I actually imagined. It must have been the nesting notion that gave me the patience to complete stool craft!
The stool currently is used for Grayson’s sound machine in his room.
However, there are days when he will go grab it to brush his teeth in the bathroom.
Or to use it to turn lights on and get into things he shouldn’t.
All the good things that I intended for the stool to be used for!

Next On My List Of Nursery Accent Crafts
Pregnancy Hormones Are No Joke!
So once the stool was completed and my confidence in my crafting skills along with the raging nesting hormones I was ready to take on my next craft.
Since I had Gestational Diabetes when I was pregnant with Grayson that meant that I had a lot of ultrasounds. I decided that I would make some type of craft with all of his ultrasound pictures.
When we moved our home office to the basement we had moved a set of shadow boxes that we used to have hanging above our desk. Since they were now just collecting dust in the basement I decided that I would use one of the shadow boxes to make a memory box. A place to collect all of Grayson’s ultrasound pictures.
The Memory Shadow Box Project
The memory box was something that came together over time as I had my multitude of ultrasounds.
So when I was getting supplies to make Grayson’s stool I also got some things that I needed for my memory box.
I bought, probably more than a necessary amount of, stickers from Hobby Lobby’s impressive rows of stickers!
Along with my array of stickers I also bought some scrapbooking crafting supplies!
So with all of my crafting goods, I spread everything out on the kitchen table, my normal workspace, and let my creativity ensue.
As I had more ultrasounds I added to the memory shadow box. It is definitely a neat momentum for Grayson and all of us to enjoy.
Grayson definitely likes to point to his memory box and say, “Baby mommy belly”, talking about himself being a baby in my belly!
At some point, I would like to add a couple more stickers and a picture in the center of the whole collection of ultrasound pictures of him from the day he was born.
It is definitely a “project” on my list of things that may get done someday! For now, we enjoy reminiscing where it all began!
And Then There Was Mason’s Nursery Accent Crafts
Or Lack There Because Sweet Little Mason Definitely Didn’t Inspire Craftiness In Me During His Pregnancy.
I suppose the fact that when I was pregnant with Mason I was way more tired attributed to the fact that crafts were the last thing on my mind. Which probably had something to do with the fact that I was also chasing after a two-year-old at the time.
I definitely did NOT have the same nesting urge for crafting as I did when I was pregnant with Grayson. There was that short-lived, we need to get ready for this baby, feeling towards the end of the pregnancy of course. But it was more or less just straight I am exhausted!
I knew that I wanted to have a letter in his room just like Grayson’s so that was a “craft” I felt I could tackle in my pregnancy delirium. Once we decided on Mason’s name we went to Hobby Lobby and bought his galvanized metal “M” sign for his nursery wall.
“What’s In A Name?”
Other than personal preference, opinion, family tradition, and all the other influences!
We had the hardest time deciding on what name we wanted. Probably because we really liked the name Mason from the beginning but since it was so matchy and rhymed with Grayson we were somewhat hesitant.
Looking back I think most of our hesitation was about what other people would say and think. Which really is no way to live your life. I’m definitely happy that we decided on the name, Mason. It truly fits him. I love both of my “-ason” boys, as we call them!
Starting With The Small Nursery Accent Craft
With Hopes That It Would Inspire The Next Craft On My List!
So as we painted Mason’s dresser the same blue that we had used to paint Grayson’s we also used that same blue to paint Mason’s “M”.
It was sweet because this time around Grayson was able to help with the craft. Though at the time I’m not really sure that he realized it was for his brother. We talked about it with him but I just don’t think he completely understood at the time.

Onto The Stool Nursery Accent Crafts
Though I’m not sure I can say I was inspired by the letter project still I knew I wanted to make Mason a stool as well!
So I set out once again to find a stool to decorate this time for Mason’s nursery.
I will admit I was looking for the same style stool that I had done for Grayson but couldn’t find one in stores for the life of me.
So I settled on a rectangular wooden stool which I ended up buying from Michaels.
I brought it home and set up my crafting area on the kitchen table. I started out by painting the stool the same blue as his “M”.
Once the two coats of paint were dry I moved onto deliberating on how I wanted to decorate it.
Decorating The Stool
I was dealing with a case of indecision for sure.
The easiest part of my decision was that I knew I wanted to have his first name stenciled on the stool. But beyond that, I had a hard time deciding what stencil to use for his letters as well as how to decorate the rest of the stool.
So I brought out all the stencils I had saved from when I did Grayson’s stool. I decided to use some of the lettering stencils that I had saved but I didn’t like any of the other options for designs so I wanted to find a stencil.
After looking around at Michaels and Hobby Lobby I decided on a star stencil. Which seemed a little plain but I abated this issue by using multiple different colors to paint the stars all over.
I will say it turned out well and is his own special little stool. Like Grayson’s stool, Mason’s also currently is used for his sound machine next to his bed. It also gets moved every once in a while when Grayson goes in and “steals” it!
No Memory Box This Time Around
Maybe Someday I will Make A Different Type Of Memory Box For Mason Too. When creativity and inspiration strike!
I didn’t end up doing a memory box for Mason. Since I didn’t have Gestational Diabetes when I was pregnant with him I only had two ultrasounds the entire pregnancy.
Which made it hard to emulate the same memory box since I had copious amounts of scans with Grayson and only two with Mason.
Along with the fact that I really had no energy or inspired creativity when I was pregnant with Mason! I did save some of his things from the hospital that maybe one day I will put into a memory box for him as well.
Completed Nursery Accent Crafts
My nursery crafting season has come to an end, but the kid’s crafts are just beginning.
I absolutely love it when Grayson points to his memory box or his “G” on the wall. That and when he plays with his stool. Just the fact that these little accents are something that I made for him.
Mason is still too young to know or really realize but I know that someday he will. It just makes these simple little things special because they were made especially for each of them with lots of love from their Mom!
I know that I have a list of “crafts” that I would like to make for the boys as they get older. We will see how well or if those crafts ever come to fruition. Only time will tell that!
I can’t wait till the boys get a little older and we can do more crafts together. Something I really enjoy is going through all the crafts my Mom saved of ours and can’t wait to do the same for my boys. Oh, the homemade Christmas Ornaments, Drawlings, and more that I can not wait for!
