When we moved into our new house it was early February 2018. The beginning of my husband’s busy season, and it was a new job altogether for him, and we had an infant at the time. Regardless the yellow entryway was a daily reminder that we needed to paint.
Making Plans For Our Entryway Remodel Project
Because sometimes first impressions do matter! The entryway most of all!
With everything going on at the time that we moved it made house projects quite the challenge. We had a list of things we wanted to do to the house. As with any house project we do, it’s a process, especially now with TWO boys!
Patching, Priming, & Painting The Walls
Our standard process for painting the walls.
One of the first projects we completed was the entryway of the house. We started by surveying the walls to see what we needed to fix. Then Kevin went to work fixing spots in the drywall. Which were mostly in the pass-through area to the living room.
After we primed the patched spots we painted. We chose a light grey/light bluish color, wisteria snow. The paint we got was Valspar Ultra in an eggshell.
We never get the cheapest paint or premium paint. We normally stick with the middle of the line and have had lots of luck with it. The color was very similar to the one in which we had done in our old house.
It’s amazing what a little color will do for a room. The color change really lightened up the whole area. Though we are not in the entrance all that often because most of the living space is in the back of the house it’s nice to have a bright front area.

“Helping” Hands
Because finger painting and boo-boo’s were not on our to-do list.
At the time, we had a gate that blocked Grayson from entering the whole entry area. Initially, we installed the gate to keep him out of the pet food and bathroom.
But it also made it easy for Kevin to paint and work in there without “help”. Paint cans and tools are too tempting for a little boy!

Coat Hook Addition For The Entryway Remodel
There is always a new “vision” when deciding to makeover a room. I wanted to make it our own in our new house. Though I guess technically, some of the inspiration came from Pinterest, but you know what I mean!
We also added a coat hook area with multiple levels of hooks. The first step was to frame out the area with thin wood boards for the encasement.
Since there is an outlet in the lower right quadrant of the wall we decided to just have the encasement break the wall into two areas. So that we didn’t have to do anything with the outlet.
We wanted to have two levels of hooks. A higher level of hooks for us as well as a lower level for the boys. We made the second level of encasement where we were going to place the hooks low enough so the boys could eventually reach them but still at a level that adults could use as well.
The hooks I chose came from Hobby Lobby. I have to say I was quite impressed with the unique selection of hooks that Hobby Lobby had to offer.
The ones I decided on are a dark blue/navy weathered hook. They go well with the blue in the paint color and the weathering of them means they won’t show as much wear and tear, hopefully!

A Ledge Area Too
Because even the minor details matter in the makeover projects.
To complete the coat hook area Kevin also added a small ledge, that I had requested. I wanted something that I could put little decorations on.
Because this is a must-have part of the design! Kevin is more about the functionality and I’m more about how I can decorate it aspect.
Once all the additions were on Kevin sanded all of the new wood and primed it before painting. We painted the encased area with a whitish color to match the trim.

Finishing The Entryway Remodel Project
An entryway that was finally our own in color and design.
This was definitely one of the more straightforward projects that we wanted to accomplish. It helped that it was in a small enough area so we could finish it quite quickly! I finished decorating the area with a couple of pictures from Hobby Lobby.
It was the end of August when we finally finished so I was able to talk Kevin into letting me put up pumpkins as an early fall decoration. He normally makes me wait till September before I make him haul in all of my “fall decor” boxes!
